Bald eagle DNF and her two eggs on a cold, snowy evening. The nesting materials, scrape, egg cup location, site preparation, and tree all create a microclimate that traps heat and shelters eggs and incubating parents from harsh winter weather.
February 15, 2025: Rolling and rearranging the eggs. Rolling eggs helps keep embryos from sticking to the shells, regulates temperature, and helps the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) develop properly. The CAM is responsible for the gaseous exchange between the embryo and the outside world.
