I’m not 100% positive, but even if he loses a civil suit, I don’t think that results in jail time … unless a lost suit triggers a DA to press criminal charges against him.

It seems that with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the All-Powerful-and-Knowing Goodell can do what the hell he wants.
So yeah, even if this turns out to be a money grab by a jilted lover, AB could be suspended before the case even goes to Court.
Having said that, even if AB has technically done nothing illegal or even actionable, the Court of Public Opinion may have already ruled him guilty of Piggery.

Get used to it my friend, it’s a sad world. This #metoo movement is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen. Yes I like it because men should be punished for assault, and this isn’t the barbarian days anymore… However too many women are making stuff up just for attention and money. Happened with a politician in my city who was the head of the Democrat party. One girl said he touched her at a party 15 years ago, he lost his job and all his respect… Went to court and the girl was lying. They were dating at the time and she was totally ok with it. The world is a scary place.
I don’t see these texts as “menacing.”
If he is innocent, I see these as a guy trying to help defend himself against a false accusation by trying to understand where his accuser is coming from. Know thy Adversary, and all that.
If he is guilty and is trying to get away with it … Know thy Adversary, and all that.

I’m with you. I read the texts and all the tweets by the lawyer this morning. There is nothing there. There’s some crap going on right now with these people now that he’s a Pat imo.
