I became a big fan of the Indigo Girls when they opened for R.E.M. at the Worcester Centrum in 1989.
Check out this R.E.M. setlist from and that show. I remember Michael Stipe joined Amy and Emily for a song too.

In my searching I see 10,000 Maniacs opened for R.E.M. at the Centrum in 1987. A show I wish I had seen.
