I now use metal straws I don’t use the paper ones which are nasty or the plastic straws any more

We grew up poor and I mean poor.I learned from watching my mom tricks of the trade and I just added to them.

We were the typical Midwestern middle class family. Didn’t have everything but never wanted for anything either. We certainly were taught not to be wasteful that’s for sure

Growing up like I mentioned we were poor my mom was raising us alone since my dad died when I was very young. Times were very tough soshw goes to the place that gives food stamps. And they told her that she made too much which was b*******.And my mom said aloud I know people out there who make way more than me and they’re on food stamps, the lady wanted mom to give up names and mom said that’s not my job it’s yours.

I was at the grocery store looking at hamburger meat.I usually get the roll hamburger meat because it’s cheaper and just as good and it was on sale. So I’m looking at the packaged hamburger meat next to it on the side and I say to myself. I can do math. So I laugh and I started figuring out which was a better deal and the better deal wasn’t the one on sale but the one that was next to it. The one on sale would costc2-3 bucks more.I go to myself thats right I can do math. I think I’m saying it’s myself and I looked up and the butcher who I’m familiar with is near me and hes just smiling.I said I didn’t know I was saying that out loud snd laughed. He said that was fun to watch.
But I will sit in front of an item figuring the better deal per ounce, sale etc. And I dont use a calculator. I prefer to do it pen and paper or in my head. I need to keep brain active.

Well once you start doing it, it takes little time.
But with grocery prices going up and not my paycheck, one needs to find ways to cut things.
