This is weird.
They are experimenting with a rule at the Pro Bowl where, after a successful Field Goal, you can elect to keep the ball on your own 25 yard line with a 4th-and-15. If you don’t make it to your own 40, the other team takes over on downs; if you do, you get to keep the ball.
They are trying to cut down on onside kicks, which rarely succeed at anything but putting players at risk.
If you’re down by 9 to 11 points late … get into field goal range, kick it, then take your chances on your best 4th-and-15 play?
