Mr. North at Decorah North. Look very closely and you’ll see his melting eye-sicles! Ice can accumulate on an eagle’s rimal bristles when the weather conditions are right. Warm weather or direct sunlight will quickly melt them away.
I loved this capture of DNF’s fierce wild beauty!
If you look closely, you’ll see the egg’s rough texture. The egg is dotted with tiny pores (20 to 20 microns) that allow gas exchange and evaporation. The rough texture might also help prevent water droplets from settling on the eggs and interfering with gas exchange or introducing microbes.
