Re-posting here as it’s more OT in this thread:
I didn’t understand the motivation to trade Vasquez but it yielded the #12 and #21 prospects in a solid Houston system. Vasquez will be 32 this month and a FA after this season. Tug of the heartstrings, emotionally; Solid business decision if you really look deep into this trade as Houston likely overpaid for Vasquez.
Hosmer is not going to sell any playoff tickets but he is an upgrade at 1B and they got him almost for free.
Pham is going to platoon with JBJ. He has all star numbers vs. lefty pitching and is going to make $6 million next year - not bad for a 4th OFer.
I don’t know if the Sox got better, but I don’t necessarily think they got worse.
