Why not?

I decided to create this for all the articles we find that make us go , sure, why not in a sarcastic way.

Here is the article that made me think of this.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. ( WAVY ) — School officials in Portsmouth, Virginia, say they’re investigating after a 22-year-old assistant coach allegedly posed as a 13-year-old girl and played in a junior varsity basketball game earlier this month.

Parents of the girl the coach impersonated tell Nexstar’s WAVY their daughter was out of town for a club basketball tournament during Churchland High School’s Jan. 21 game in Suffolk.

In video from the game obtained by WAVY, the assistant coach, identified as Arlisha Boykins, can be seen high-fiving other players on the team after making multiple plays.

“Coaches always preach to the kids about integrity and those types of things, so I was just shocked,” the father of the 13-year-old said, recounting his reaction after hearing about the incident.

The assistant coach is no longer employed by Portsmouth Public Schools. Players and parents on the Churchland High School team have decided not to play any more games this season.

School officials have launched an investigation into the matter.

The girl’s family told WAVY their daughter is no longer interested in attending Churchland High next year and will pursue other opportunities. The family is also seeking an apology from the school division.

Additional details have not yet been released.

Man leaves wife after 19 years of marriage because she was a man: "Now I know why she wasn’t good at ironing

A man has spoken about the incident when he discovered his wife of 19 years was a man.

And he exclaimed, “Now I know why she wasn’t good at ironing.”

Sharing their story, the 64-year-old man, who goes by Jan, said he had met his wife Monica when she accompanied his sister’s children as an au-pair. He recollected she was ‘beautiful and feminine’ but ‘poor at ironing’, which he never understood.

At the time, he and his second wife were drifting apart, so he quickly fell in love with Monica. “I thought she was an attractive woman, and she was all woman - she had no male traits.”

When they met, Monica was only 27 years old while Jan was forty-four. He was relieved when she didn’t want kids because he was already old and had two children of his own.

“She took pills regularly,” he said.

Jan mentions that Monica was a ‘fantastic cook’ and ‘good mother to his children’ but lacked cleaning and ironing skills.

But the marriage was suffering even before he learned the truth she would go out at night by herself wearing short and revealing tops and owned over ‘100 pairs of shoes.’

“She began to wear very flashy clothes,” he explained, and “her abdomen was completely exposed.”

Jan also caught Monica ogling pictures of young men on the internet, and she received messages from several men. That’s when one of Monica’s cousins let slip that she was a boy at the time of birth.

When Jan spoke to his son regarding this, he admitted to having heard of it, and the father-son duo confronted Monica. She revealed hesitantly that she had undergone surgery to become a woman after being born a man.

Although Jan tried to evict her from his house, the judge refused. So the couple lived under the same roof but in different rooms.

Transgender Woman Prisoner is Requesting Diapers Because She now Identifies as a Baby

Sophie Eastwood (formerly known as Daniel) now identifies herself as a baby.

Only a month before he was to be released from a Scottish prison, Daniel Eastwood murdered his cellmate and was sentenced to life behind bars. Fourteen years later, in 2018, Daniel told the prison staff that he was no longer Daniel but identified as a woman and was to be named as Sophie. Although the prison staff was confused to decide whether it would be a female or a male guard who could carry out Sophie’s routine checks, the prison staff took Sophie’s request serious and accommodated her.

Nevertheless, 36-year-old Sophie has now made a new claim and as a baby, requesting to be treated as an infant. She further requested diapers to be provided for her and asked the prison staff to puree her food. But, shockingly, her demands don’t stop there. She also wants the prison guards to hold her hand when she is escorted to and from her cell. According to the prison staff is taking Sophie’s demands seriously, and to show just how serious her demands were taken; prison bosses gave her a dummy.

Besides Eastwood being a hardened and a dangerous criminal, she has been hospitalized several times for intentionally eating razor which earned her the moniker “Hannibal Lecter.” In addition, she has a history of an unstable behavior and a violent temper.

Besides her history of violence and instability, Sophie is manipulative and is known for being intelligent. About her character, a prison worker
said, “Eastwood is a complex person and intelligent but she is pretty demanding on the resources of the prison and enjoys being the centre of attention. It’s difficult to know if she really does feel a natural inclination to be treated like a baby or if it’s just some kind of attention seeking.”*Nevertheless, if the authorities accept her latest demands, baby Sophie will set a precedent where any criminal serving a life sentence could expect any bizarre request they make to be considered.

At the moment, authorities are worried after reports emerged that almost half of transgender inmates in Scotland began transitioning after being convicted. One such worried official is the former Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill who [said], “This is extremely worrying. The statistics confirm the anecdotal evidence that some male prisoners are opting to self ID as females not through any desire to transgender but to avoid being imprisoned in the male estate. That is an abuse of the system and a threat to vulnerable women. It’s one thing protecting the rights of transgender prisoners but quite another to be facilitating what’s a fraud and extremely harmful.”

Similarly, there are about 4,890 transgender prisoners across the United States, and States such as California are already considering gender identity housing requests. New laws have also been enacted in California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts which allow inmates to be addressed and searched based on their preferred gender identity. Furthermore, an Illinois judge has [ordered the federal bureau of prisons to secure a gender-affirming surgery for a transgender federal prisoner in what will be the first in the country’s history.

Although the authorities have already shown a positive attitude towards Sophie Eastwood’s demands, time will tell whether society would allow dangerous adult criminals serving life sentences to identify themselves as babies and be treated a such. However, even if the Scottish authorities accept Sophie as a baby, what gender would she belong to, and would she need carers to look after her?

In whichever way one looks at Sophie’s latest request, one can’t help but feel uncertainty as to where society would draw the line on critical social issues. Nevertheless, 36-year-old Sophie, who was a Daniel only a few years ago, has drawn the line that she is now an infant baby.

A couple abandoned their [baby at an airport check-in desk in [Tel Aviv] Israel after arriving without a ticket for the child.

The pair, who have not been identified, were checking in for a Ryanair flight from Ben Gurion International Airport to Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday with the infant.

It emerged that the baby did not have a ticket, and the couple headed off to board the flight – leaving their child behind on the airline check-in counter.

The matter was referred to police, a spokeswoman for Ryanair told CNN in an email.

She said: “These passengers traveling from Tel Aviv to Brussels (31 Jan) presented at check-in without a booking for their infant. They then proceeded to security leaving the infant behind at check-in.

“The check-in agent at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security, who retrieved these passengers, and this is now a matter for local police.”

According to Ryanair’s website, “infants can be included in a flight reservation during the online booking process.” When making plans to travel with an infant, a pop-up message appears on the site stating that there is a €25 ($27) charge – or the local currency equivalent – for each one-way flight the baby takes while sitting on an adult’s lap. A seat must be paid for by separate arrangement if the adults want the baby to travel in a car seat.

The Israeli Airport Authority confirmed the episode to CNN and said in a statement:

“A couple and an infant with Belgian passports arrived for a flight at Terminal 1 without a ticket for the baby. The couple also arrived late for the flight, once the check-in for the flight was closed. The couple left the infant seat with the baby and ran toward the security checks at Terminal 1 in an attempt to reach the boarding gate for the flight.”

A spokesman for Israel Police told CNN in a phone call that the matter appeared to have been resolved by the time police arrived on the scene. He said: “The baby was with the parents and there’s no further investigation.”

CNN’s Richard Allen Greene contributed to this report.

As animal lovers, it’s easy to understand why people let their pets sleep with them in bed at night. Dogs and cats are soft and snuggly, so they make great cuddle partners. Even curling up with a ferret or a bunny rabbit isn’t out of the ordinary. But, how about a python?

One woman was sleeping with her pet python every single night — as you might imagine, it turns out that wasn’t the best choice for a bedmate.

Every single evening, the woman would sleep with her pet python sprawled her body. When she’d sleep on her stomach, her beloved python would spread out its body from her head to her toes. It was a bonding moment that she cherished with her snake. Until she noticed something was wrong.

After weeks of sleeping with the woman in her bed, the python suddenly stopped eating. She started to grow concerned and took the snake to the veterinarian to see why it was refusing meal times that it normally used to love.

The 7-foot python was starving itself and when the vet asked about the snake’s daily routine — they were stunned to hear about their sleeping habits.

After hearing that woman and the python sleep together every evening, the vet was completely taken aback. They asked the woman if the snake sprawls out along her body or curls up around her at times. She confirmed that that was the case.

The vet began to explain to the woman that the snake was actually sizing her up. Every time the snake was sprawling itself along her body, it was actually a bit of rehearsal of sorts. It was essentially practicing for its next big meal.

It turns out that the snake was patiently waiting until the perfect time for it to snatch up its prey, its next big course, and in this case — its owner. After receiving the shocking news, we’d hope that this woman learned a frightful lesson and won’t be making that mistake again.

An Iowa care facility is facing fines totaling $10,000 after mistakenly pronouncing a 66-year-old resident dead and having her transported to a funeral home, where she woke up “gasping for air.”

A [new report from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals details the series of events that led up to the woman being mistakenly pronounced dead. The unidentified resident, who had been at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center since Dec. 2021, was moved into hospice care at the facility on Dec. 28, 2022, because of “senile degeneration of the brain.”

While in hospice care, comfort measures were taken. Over the course of several days, staff members recorded occurences of “diminished” lung sounds and minor seizures. On Jan. 3, 2023, the woman was pronounced dead at 6 a.m. after an employee identified as Staff C said that she “did not feel a pulse” and found the “resident was not breathing at that time.”

The staff member notified a licensed practical nurse. The woman’s family was alerted and a local funeral home was called.

A funeral director arrived shortly after 7:30 a.m., and with the assistance of another nurse, identified as “LPN D,” the resident was placed in a body bag which was zipped shut. The funeral director left the facility shortly afterward. At 8:26 a.m., employees at Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory unzipped the bag.

They “observed (the resident’s) chest moving and she gasped for air,” the report states.

The funeral home then called 911 and the care facility. When EMS responded, they were able to record a pulse and breathing, but there was no eye movement and no verbal response.

That same day, the resident was returned to the care facility. She passed away early in the morning of Jan. 5, with her family at her side, the report said.

“We have been in close communication with the family of the resident, and we just completed an investigation by the Department of Inspections and Appeals regarding the matter,” Lisa Eastman, the facility’s executive director, told CBS News. “We care deeply for our residents and remain fully committed to supporting their end-of-life care. All employees undergo regular training so they can best support end-of-life care and the death of our residents.”

The facility faces two state violations from the DIA, which could result in a $10,000 fine.

Long but what the heck?

Hungry seagulls on the coast of Namibia have a gruesome way of snacking: they peck out and consume the eyeballs of baby seals, according to a new study.

But that’s not the only strange eating habit these birds have, the researchers said. The kelp gull (Larus dominicanus) has also been observed pecking skin and blubber off adult and juvenile whales in South America. And in Chile, the birds supplement their seafood diet with a real delicacy: olives.

To humans, the kelp gulls’ meals may sound horrific, but this bird’s eclectic palate is what makes it such a “highly successful” predator and scavenger, according to researchers from the University of Miami, who published their findings about the birds’ eyeball-eating behavior on Aug. 18 in the African Journal of Marine Science.

For 15 years, researchers have been keeping tabs on populations of kelp gulls and Cape fur seals at Pelican Point, in Namibia’s Dorob National Park. In the winter months, between 20,000 and 80,000 Cape fur seals make their home on this stretch of beach along the southern Atlantic Ocean. And they share the beach with several thousand breeding pairs of kelp gulls.

As far back as 25 years ago, researchers studying the wildlife of coastal Namibia predicted that one day, the presence of both seals and gulls on the country’s coast — mixed with the fact that overfishingwas steadily killing off both species’ main food source — might lead to conflict.

And they were right.

Harrowing hunting skills

The gulls’ eyeball-gouging sounds scary, but it’s really just a clever hunting tactic, the researchers said. By pecking out a seal’s eyes, the gull renders its prey blind, making it tough for the baby animal to escape, said Austin Gallagher, a research scientist at the University of Miami and lead author of the new study.

The scientists recorded about 500 eye-pecking attacks over the course of the 15-year observational study, and about half of those attacks were “successful,” according to the researchers. A successful attack started when a gull approached a newborn seal that had wandered away from its mother or when the gull happened upon a sleeping juvenile seal. Then, the gull went for the creature’s eyes — rapidly pecking at the ocular region in an attempt to pluck out the animal’s eyeballs and eat them.

But eyeball-eating didn’t signal the end of the attack, the researchers said. After consuming the seal’s eyes, successful gulls pecked the bodies of the chubby baby seals, going for the soft, exposed regions of the underbelly and anus. Usually, other gulls would see the carnage and join in the meal, the researchers found. But there is good news: sometimes the baby seals escaped, at times receiving help from a larger, seagull-biting adult seal.

The kelp gull’s taste for seal meat may be a new trend, but it’s also possible that these birds have been plucking out seal eyeballs for a long time and no one ever noticed before, Gallagher told Live Science in an email. As to why the seagulls do this, Gallagher said the reason is likely very simple: Seals are plentiful, fish are not, and gulls go for the meal that’s easier to find. [Gallery: Seals of the World]

Whale tale

A similar story is unfolding on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, as well. Off the coast of Argentina’s Valdes Peninsula, right whale adults and their young are under constant attack by kelp gulls, a species whose population in that region has tripled in size since the 1980s, according to Victoria Rowntree, a research associate professor in the biology department at the University of Utah, who was not involved with the new study.

In 1998, Rowntree and several of her colleagues published their observations of the gulls’ morbid feeding behavior in the journal Marine Mammal Science. Things haven’t gotten any better for the right whales since then, she said.

“Usually, when a whale breaches and leaps out of the water, lots of gulls will go chasing after the breach,” Rowntree told Live Science. The gulls are scavenging pieces of the whale’s skin, which slough off as the animal hits the surface of the water, she added.

But in the early 1980s, a graduate student studying whales off the Valdes Peninsula in Patagonia (a nursery ground for southern right whales) noticed that some of the gulls also pecked at the whales as they breached, leaving small holes in the animals’ backs. As the whales raised their young over the next several months, the gulls would continue these attacks, pecking at the original holes to reach the nutrient-rich blubber under the skin until the holes widened into large lesions.

The gulls’ feeding behavior has gotten progressively more aggressive through the decades, Rowntree said. However, some adult whales have adapted their behavior to ward off their avian attackers. Female right whales now arch their backs when surfacing for a breath in such a way that the birds can’t peck through their skin, she said. But this modified breaching behavior caused another problem, Rowntree added, because the thwarted gulls began pecking at baby whales that are too naïve to mimic mom’s breach.

“Now their new targets are the newborn calves. Some of them have 10 or 15 lesions down the middle of their backs,” said Rowntree, who added that a gull will sometimes follow a calf, pecking at it for about a third of a mile (half a kilometer) before returning to the beach for a rest and giving its blubbery meal up to another gull.

Why do the gulls resort to eating whale blubber when there are other food sources nearby (namely, shellfish)? Again, the answer is simple: the whales are an easier meal than shellfish, which are only exposed to the gulls’ pecking beaks during low tide, Rowntree said.

Rowntree, who has watched the mortality rate of right whale calves soar in recent years, is not a fan of kelp gulls, which she calls “horrible,” though she said that it’s not yet clear how the incessant gull attacks relate to the mortality rate of right whale calves.

But even Rowntree admitted that these insidious gulls are smart. Their intelligence and ability to learn new, complex behaviors from one another, and even from other bird species, makes them successful predators, whether they’re gouging out a seal’s eyeballs or pecking at baby whale blubber.
