How can anyone really think like this?

I saw another one recently where the bride went on a rant on FB because most of her family and friends were balking at giving the couple $1500 cash as a wedding gift, so they could have a $60,000 wedding they couldnt afford otherwise.
I just dont get that mentality. My wife and i got married about as cheaply as possible, and we are just as married as a couple that had a massive debt incurring party. I mean if youre wealthy, then go for it. But if youre not, then maybe use a little financial restraint.
