The WEEI guys were having fun with the fact that today’s pitcher of record (Walden) now has a W-L record of 6-0, while Sale is 1-5.
I would never call the W-L stat completely useless, but I will say that it’s a noisy stat. I would only ever use it as a tiebreaker between two pitchers whose roles (starter, middle reliever, setup man, closer) were the same, and whose other pitching stats were more or less the same.
